Wooden Cat Keyrings: How to Pick One That Looks Like Their Cat

Published

There's a very particular kind of satisfaction in giving a cat person a present and hearing, “That looks like mine!”

Our wooden cat keyrings are £4.50 each, laser engraved in York and made for keys or bags. The trick is choosing the design that reminds you of their cat. Here's how to narrow it down.

First, look at the coat and markings

Before worrying about a pedigree, think about what makes the cat recognisable. Is it stripy? All black? Black and white with a big fluffy coat? Does it have the distinctive face and colouring of a Siamese? Those clues are often more useful than guessing a breed.

These are ready-made breed and colour illustrations, not custom portraits. Compare the pictures with the cat you're buying for and choose the closest match.

For the tabby with main-character energy

A tabby is instantly recognisable by those familiar striped or swirled markings. Our Tabby Cat Wooden Keyring is a lovely little gift for someone whose camera roll is mostly pictures of their stripy troublemaker.

For the black-cat household

If their cat is a beautiful little shadow with eyes, the Black Cat Wooden Keyring is the obvious choice. Black cats aren't just for Halloween, either. Their humans are usually obsessed with them all year round.

For a Siamese or a fluffy black-and-white cat

Some cats have a look you recognise immediately. The Siamese Cat Wooden Keyring is a good place to start for those distinctive point markings, while our Black & White Long-Haired Cat Wooden Keyring suits a very different sort of fluffy feline.

More breeds and colours worth checking

If none of those looks quite right, try our Ragdoll, Maine Coon, Bengal, British Shorthair or Calico designs.

Remember that “tabby” and “calico” describe coat patterns, not cat breeds. If you aren't certain of the breed, choosing by appearance is absolutely fine. You can compare all the current designs in our cat breed and colour keyring collection.

What if they love weird cats more than realistic ones?

Sometimes it's the cat person's personality that matters more than the cat's colouring. For someone who likes UFOs, our Space Cat UFO keyring might be a better fit. And if they prefer cheeky pet-owner jokes, have a look at our funny pet keyrings.

Are wooden cat keyrings good gifts?

They're useful, easy to pop into a card or small parcel and don't require you to know someone's jewellery preferences. At £4.50 each, they're great for a birthday extra, Secret Santa, a Christmas stocking or a little “saw this and thought of you” surprise.

Because they're made from natural wood, the grain may vary slightly from piece to piece. And while they celebrate familiar cat breeds and markings, they aren't personalised engravings of your own pet.

Choose the cat, not just the gift

If you know the coat colour or markings, start there. If you know the breed, compare its shape and features. If you know absolutely nothing except that this person loves cats, choose something funny or wonderfully odd instead.

For jewellery and other present ideas, read our general cat-lover gift guide. If you're shopping to a strict budget, our cat gifts under £25 guide has some useful combinations.

And remember: however carefully you choose the present, the actual cat will probably prefer the packaging.
